Vacuum Coffee Bean Canister review

Vacuum Coffee Bean Canister review

Viacheslav Druzhynin

Storing coffee in a bag with a zip lock is totally fine. The downside of this - it’s not always locking and you need to pay attention that it’s fully closed. And it takes effort to close it. That’s why some sort of canister is a way better solution.

Recently I reviewed 4 canisters and selected one for myself. And it’s a vacuum one. But it’s not only about the vacuum, because with the small manual pump it’ll be only partially effective (some predict 20-40% reduction of oxygen inside).

The main reason was the width. I want to dose the beans with my hand instead of using a spoon. Though, you can easily use it here as well. But yeah, reducing oxidation is a very nice touch.

Let’s talk about volume. My version is 750 ml. And it comfortably fits 350 grams of coffee (actually around 370 g). Which is more than 12 oz. Meaning you can store the full bag of coffee.

On amazon, there is a huge version which should fit more than 500 grams (1.3LB/20 OZ). Haven’t found a smaller one there, but it should work fine as well. But, more pumps will be needed in order to take out the air.

The canister is wide so you can’t use it with one hand. I can barely hold it with my XL palms. But the process is pretty smooth. Press the small button to let the air in and then pull the lid. There are rims on the body of a canister, so you will be able to do it even with small hands.

It feels nice overall. Durable and rigid. As well as the lid. And it’ll be easy to clean inside due to its width (14 cm / 5.5 in).

Vacuuming takes around 20 pumps of a big button at the lid. Then the big button will have a smaller height indicating that the process is finished. When coffee is fresh this button will rise with time because of the CO2 release from the beans. So it’s not because it’s not airtight.

Overall, it’s a way better experience than the bag. The only thing I would add (and it’s possible to do) is some pads at the bottom so that it’s not metal contacting the table but some soft material.
